Artist Statement – Maryse Vaillancort-Prescott
Textile Artist | Art Quilter
I create every day—not just to make art, but to cultivate joy and peace of mind. Working with textiles allows me to tell stories through fabric, stitch by stitch. My quilted compositions are playful narratives of everyday life—whether it’s a bustling neighborhood, a quiet countryside, or a whimsical cityscape brought to life with color and texture.
Using scraps of fabric, paint, ink, and an ever-growing collection of stitches, I build imaginative scenes that celebrate the little things: music, children, animals, gifts, and food. Look closely—do you see a bass-playing squirrel? A ladybug going camping? A tree made of cupcakes or cotton candy? Maybe it’s a beach day in a patchwork paradise.
In a world that often feels heavy with pain and conflict, I aim to offer a moment of wonder. My work invites viewers into a dreamlike world where innocence and joy still thrive—a place of warmth, curiosity, and joie de vivre.
